(2009) found toluene levels higher (up to 226 m g/m 3 ) amongst the BTEX group (Chan et al., 2009). Amongst the BTEX compounds in general, toluene concentrations ranked first. The elevated IVOC concentrations were observed for n -hexane, especially in PS and KG during the winter.
A total of 61 VOCs were quantified throughout the study, but only the concentrations of major constituents such as BTEX (benzene, ethyl-benzene, toluene, and isomeric xylenes), n -hexane, and TVOCs are given in Table 2. Also, household cleaners and polishes contain high level of n -hexane (Knöppel and Schauenburg, 1989 Sack et al., 1992). Studies conducted in buildings showed that the sources of n hexane were carpet glues, wallpaper, particle board, insulation foam, and fresh paint (Katsoyiannis et al., 2008 Srivastava et al., 2000). The highest TVOC levels were observed in PS (3028 m g/m 3 ) and KG (1101 m g/m 3 ) during the winter ( Table 2), mostly due to the recorded elevated n -hexane levels, whereas the lowest TVOC level was encountered in H1 (33 m g/m 3 ) during the summer. Thus, mesophilic and low-moderate humidity conditions were dominant in the monitored environments, which might reflect the composition and level of air pollutants. temperature/RH values measured in the summer and winter for indoors were 25 C/33% and 20 C/31%, respectively, and for outdoors, 25 C/31%, and 5 C/47%, respectively.
